Sheer Poncho

This is one heck of a poncho. Wear it as a hooded capelet, as a cover up with a draped cowl neck, or even as a strapless dress! Since it is knit with such a thin yarn it is a perfect lightweight wrap great for cool spring/summer evenings. It may be simple to make, but the result is completely fabulous.

Materials:
U.S. 5 24” Circular Needle
Jagger Spun Zephyr Lace Weight Yarn
2 (2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 4) two ounce skeins
Stitch Markers

Gauge:
24 stitches and 32 rows = 4” in st st on size 5 needles. (stitches will be loose and open)

Size:
To fit 40” (42”, 44”, 46”, 48”, 50”, 52”) around arms and bust.
Measure with your arms at your side, you will
probably need a helper for this.

Pattern:
Body: CO 132 (132, 136, 136, 140, 144, 148) stitches using a provisional cast on (you will be using these live stitches later to knitthe neck).

K 4 rounds placing markers at the 1st and 66th (66, 68, 68, 70, 72, 74) stitch on the 4th round.

Increase 1 stitch before and after each marker every other round until there are 216 (224, 232, 240, 248, 256, 264) stitchesThis adds 4 stitches every increase round.

Continue increasing in the same manner every 11 (10, 10, 10, 9, 9, 9) rounds until you have 276 (288, 300, 312, 324, 336,348) stitches.

K 5 (14, 10, 4, 17, 12, 7) more rounds and then BO all stitches knit wise.

Cowl:
Place neck stitches back on the needle and remove the scrap yarn from the provisional cast on. There should be 132 (132, 136, 136, 140, 144, 148) stitches on the needle.

K 6 rounds placing markers at the 1st and 66th (66, 68, 68, 70, 72, 74) stitch on the 6th round.

*Knit up to 2 stitches before marker, increase, K, increase, K, slip marker, K, increase, K, increase, repeat from *. K 3 rounds. Repeat increase round every 4 rounds until there are 232 (236, 244, 252, 268, 276) stitches on the needle.

K to desired length, about 5 more inches (I knit until I ran out of yarn on the smallest size).

BO all stitches knit wise.

Finishing:
Block if desired. Weave in ends.
